...A Beautiful Weekend...

GOOD MORNING: A fairly simple forecast greets us on what will be a beautiful fall weekend. In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a large trough of low pressure will dominate the eastern U.S. But at the surface, high pressure is to the north of us. The combination is giving us fine, cool weather. This will continue through Monday.

The high will be sliding east of Alabama by then, allowing a southeasterly wind flow. A trough will rotate through late on Tuesday, but moisture should be limited. We will mention a chance of showers, based simply of the strength of the trough. Reinforcing shots of cool air will arrive next weekend and it will be dry.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME: Good news is, you will get an extra hour of sleep tonight as Daylight Saving Time comes to a close at 2 a.m. local time. So don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before
retiring tonight, or you will miss that opportunity and be early to church!

TRICK OR TREAT WEATHER: Some folks will be our trick or treating or attending fall festivals at local churches. It will be a perfect fall evening, with clear skies and cool temperatures. Readings will start off around 60 degrees and fall into the upper 40s by late evening. More of the same for Monday night, with mainly clear skies and slightly warmer temperatures.

TROPICS: Beta continues over the far southwestern Caribbean Sea this morning, about 120 miles east of the coast of Nicaragua. It likely is a hurricane by now. It is moving slowly west and is expected to reach the northeastern coast of Nicaragua overnight tonight. It should track westward over the next several days, remaining over land and diminishing into a tropical depression as it moves over Honduras and toward Guatemala. Heavy rains will cause flooding.

ON THIS DATE IN 2003: KNBC Newsman Chuck Henry from Los Angeles nearly lost his life as he covered the raging California Wildfires. Waiting until the last second to evacuate as a wall of flames bore down on him, he found that his van would not start. He was rescued by firefighters.
