NICE LULL BEFORE NOVEMBER STORMS: Yes, we need some rain, but it
sure is nice to have this pleasant autumn like weather before we get into
our secondary severe weather season. While we have had several years in a
row with more severe weather in our secondary season than springtime, I feel
sure that is just a temporary detour. Over the long haul March, April and
early May is still more dangerous than November into early December.

Let us enjoy it while we can. If you will look at our day-by-day
forecast, it looks almost like a carbon copy each day. Another weak cold
front will slip through and bring us some even cooler mornings Saturday,
Sunday and Monday. We will most likely have some lows in the 40s in the
cooler North Alabama valleys starting Sunday morning. Our daily highs will
hang out very close to 80.

SHIFTING GEARS: It is that time of year when we will need to cast
our eyes northward to look for cold fronts. In the last few days,
temperatures have been as low as 24 below zero in extreme Northern Canada,
but we will also not turn a blind eye to the Gulf of Mexico from whence
cometh a lot of our weather. Checking the weather buoys all across the Gulf
this morning, we find water temperatures mostly between 81 and 83 with the
warmer water over the West Gulf. In the Florida Keys, a bit warmer-83 to 85.
The Gulf is still warm enough for another possible tropical storm or
hurricane before the season ends. Hurricanes do prefer water temperatures of
85 to 88, which is like an all-you-can-eat buffet for them.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Not much going on. There is a large restless
weather area over parts of the Caribbean, northeastward into the Atlantic.
The part that is over the Western Caribbean will fool around in the same
area for the next day or two with little chance of development. The only
thing promising now is a tropical wave 700 miles SW of the Cape Verde
Islands. It may develop more in the next couple of days.

ELSEWHERE: The flooding in the northeast has caused millions and
millions of dollars in damage. It is pouring in the Big Apple again today.
About 4.50 inches of rain fell overnight in New York. The October total in
Central Park is now over 9 inches. Unfortunately, it looks like locally
heavy rain will continue for the next 24 to 48 hours and some areas may get
5 additional inches or more.coldest spots in the USA this morning were Big
Piney, Wyoming with 24 and Nuiqsut, Alaska with 6 above zero.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Quite a response yesterday when we
mentioned EADS (Escape Associated Deafness Syndrome). Quite a few people say
that is not limited to the Shih-Tsu breed of dogs. I do know that Little
Miss Molly has a real fine-tuned ability to turn a deaf ear when she wants
to. On our half-mile walk this morning, she went full steam ahead for the
first half mile with me leaning back on the leash like I was trying to
subdue a wild horse. When we turned around to head that one-quarter mile
back home, she changed completely. She walked so slowly, sniffing everything
in sight, stopping and looking at birds flying overhead and reacting to
every sound. I am almost sure she was buying time to get to stay outside
longer. She loves the outdoors. Sometimes I wish we lived on a 100-acre
fenced in farm so she could roam free like a wildebeest on the African
plain. Just teasing. Love her as an indoor dog where we can play and cuddle
15 times a day. Life goes on.
