SAY GOODBYE TO THE 80S: The late season daytime warmth has been
tenacious but finally the old thermometer is headed south where it should be
this time of year. Sure, we can still have some more 80 degree weather but
not anytime soon.

The cold front was moving eastward across Alabama this afternoon. It
could trigger a few showers through this evening but most areas should
remain dry. A line of showers had formed by 2 pm from east of Birmingham NE
to Dekalb County in NE Alabama. The showers were moving eastward. Some heavy
showers noated near Gadsden.

Unfortunately, most areas will remain dry. Many parts of the state
are approaching two weeks without rain.

You will really start feeling the cooler air Saturday and over the
weekend. Brisk north winds will accompany high temperatures only in the
upper 60s tomorrow as compared to 80s on most days recently. Another cold
front will replenish our cooler air later. We think Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday will be our coolest. See our day-by-day.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For tonight's high school games and also the
Southern Miss-UAB game at Legion Field, there will be a slight risk of a
shower but most areas dry. Temperatures will be around 70 at kickoff and
about 62 at the final whistle. For the Alabama-Tennessee game at Tuscaloosa
Saturday afternoon, dry cool weather with near 68 for the 2:30 kickoff
dropping to about 60 at game's end. Auburn plays LSU in Baton Rouge in a
6:45 pm game. It should be clear, near 70 but falling through the 60s.

TROPICAL WEATHER: It's all about Wilma. We believe that major
damage is underway this afternoon in the Cozumel-Cancun areas of the Yucatan
Peninsula. She was moving ever-so slowly and this will give her time to tear
up a lot more property. Massive flash-flooding is also likely. Wilma may
hang around for the weekend. Then she is expected to start NE in a weakened
state toward South Florida late Monday. Not sealed in stone by any means.
Stay tuned. The circulation around Wilma has become so large that swells
were affecting areas as far north as the Alabama-Northwest Florida Coast
where a High Surf Advisory was in effect. Unless something unusual happens,
we don't think that Alabama will be directly affected.

USA EXTREMES: It was 94 in Laredo Thursday. Lows this morning
included 17 in both Stanley, Idaho and Northway, Alaska.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: When Little Miss Molly and I spend so
much time alone, I believe we bond even more if that is possible. Last
night, she slept at the foot of my king-size bed. She always sleeps in a
tight circle. She awoke me before my automatic 5 o'clock wakeup time, walked
up to be and said "woof-woof" Translation: time to go for a walk. Her tiny
nose was almost touching mine. I turned the flashlight on and I could see
those bright little eyes looking directly into mine with a real wishful
look. Translation: I am under bondage to that little girl and away we went.
After quickly getting dressed, of course. Coffee can wait. Molly needs to go
to the bathroom. Life goes on..
