...Getting Crabby...
GOOD MORNING: I love steamed crabs, Baltimore style. You know, big fat,
blue crabs from the Chesapeake, caked in Old Bay spice on a table covered
with brown paper. One of my favorite restaurants is a little
hole-in-the-wall Gunnings seafood joint in an old Glen Burnie, Maryland
neighborhood. It was closed last time I went there, so I had to head to a
more modern Gunnings location a mile or so away. I penned the first part of
this morning's package as I chowed down on a half dozen large steamed crabs,
a pound of steamed shrimp and a bucket of steamed mussels last night. As
Grandpa used to say on Hee Haw, "Yum, yum!" Remind me to tell you another
story about a lofty place where part of this morning's forecast package was
prepared.
STORM ALERT XTREME: Wild horses couldn't keep me from the most important
severe weather event of the year this morning at Briarwood Presbyterian
Church, but a 9 a.m. meeting will. Don't you miss it! Starts at 9:15 a.m.
Come prepared to hear one of the nation's pre-eminent severe weather experts
in Jeffrey Craven, as well as our very own Brian Peters, conducting basic
and advanced Skywarn spotting classes. If severe weather scares you, this
is a prime opportunity to treat that fear with knowledge.
OUR WEATHER I can ramble in today's package, cause weather won't take up
much room. Just suffice to say that sunshine, dry conditions, comfortable
overnights and warm afternoon will be the rule through most of the coming
week thanks to a couple of dry cold fronts that will be traversing the area.
It looks like a fairly strong storm system will move through the area late
on Friday into Saturday with a good chance of rain and storm.
THE LIFESAVING ROLE OF HURRICANE FORECASTING: On September 20th, testimony
was given to a Congressional Committee about the state of hurricane
forecasting. I watched all two hours and twenty minutes of the hearing to
give you the Readers' Digest version in today and tomorrow's Weather Talk.
