THE OLD SUN AND FOG SONG: Seems to be a habit lately that we have
plenty of afternoon sunshine with late night fog and early morning clouds. A
low level temperature inversion caused that to happen again this morning. We
do not know where the sun will break through first, but at midday it was
only 66 degrees in Tuscaloosa compared to a warm 80 in Montgomery.

We may see some more low clouds and fog late tonight, but probably
not as extensive as it has been. This will give us an earlier start for
sunshine Wednesday and our high temperature may go slightly above 80. That
will pretty much be the story for the rest of the week with lows hanging out
close to 60 and highs near or just above 80.

We have a small chance of a shower in the forecast for Friday, but
the chance of you seeing one is very slim. Otherwise, mostly dry weather
through the weekend.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Hurricane Vince was a very strange character. He
was a flash in the pan, forming quickly last weekend. Late yesterday he was
demoted to a depression and was the first tropical system ever to make
landfall in Spain since records began. We have a longer story about Vince
and his strange voyage on the blog. Now, we will continue to watch a large
area of disturbed weather from the Central Caribbean ENE across Puerto Rico,
the Virgin Islands and north into the Atlantic for several hundred miles.
Development, if any, should be slow to occur.

LOOKING IN ALL DIRECTIONS: For the second day in a row, no
100-degree heat Monday. The USA high was 98 at Alice in South
Texas...coldest this morning was 15 in West Yellowstone, Montana and 17 at
Crow Hill in snow-covered Colorado...it is tragic that as much as 3 to 5
inches of additional rain will fall over the NE during the next several
days. There has been some big time flooding, especially in New
Hampshire...during the last several days, more than 12 inches of rain has
fallen at Winsor, New York...ranchers in Colorado will really appreciate
this early big snow. It had a lot of water content and it will have time to
soak in the ground as it melts.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Always look forward to stepping
outside for the first walk of the day with Little Miss Molly. She is the
designated boss on that first walk and it is amazing how meticulous she
sniffs the same weeds, bushes and tree trunks every single time. Those must
be some type of message boards where dogs leave their scents...an amazing
chorus the moment we stepped outside. There must have been 30 crows cawing
about a quarter mile away. They were behind a forested area and we could not
see them. Do not know if it was a crow rumble or a crow city council meeting
or just an old crow reunion. Their tone sounded rather terse and not very
friendly. So, it could have been a good old-fashioned dispute...couple of
days ago, driving down Deerfoot Parkway, we saw our first flock of Canada
geese headed south in that familiar "V" formation. Life goes on.
