COMING AT US FROM TWO DIRECTIONS: We will have to look in two
directions to arrive at out forecast for Central Alabama. Off to the east
and SE, tropical moisture will be spreading westward thanks to Tropical
Storm Tammy. Then we look NW to watch the strongest cold front since last
spring. The timing of the front determines how much rain we get. We hope you
will check our day-by-day forecast for the specifics but , in a nutshell,
this is what we look for:

Some showers starting tomorrow. Could even hear thunder. Best chance
during the afternoon and night. The cold front arrives early Friday,
possibly before daybreak. Some showers will linger behind the front, mainly
Friday morning. Sunshine returns Saturday along with cooler temperatures and
much lower humidity. The weekend should feature extremely pleasant autumn
weather. We have lowered our coolest temperature for Sunday morning to 49
which will be our lowest temperature since last spring.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Tropical Storm Tammy grew a bit stronger today as
she moved northward off the Florida east coast. She was located about 20
miles NE of Daytona moving NNW at 14 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph. The
center may move into Georgia before continuing her trip up the Atlantic
Seaboard. She is expected to dump a lot of rain all the way from
Jacksonville and Savannah to Portland, Maine.

FLY IN THE OINTMENT: The Extreme SE Gulf of Mexico is looking more
and more mysterious. It may be the first hint that still another tropical
cyclone is forming-the 20th of the season. It will be moving toward the NNE
and into friendlier territory the next couple of days. We will keep two or
three eyes focused that way.

BLIZZARD: Often when there is a change in seasons, the weather can
change in a dramatic way. So, a Blizzard Warning was in effect for part of
Northern Montana today. A foot of snow has fallen in the higher elevations
of the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah..the USA cold spot this morning
was Stanley, Idaho with 15. They have truly cornered the market with that
"honor" this year.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Nice to get a note from Matt Marshall,
a regular reader of our material in Layton, Utah. He reports a low of 34
where he lives in the hills north of Layton. He also says that their cats
often try to awaken them in the middle of the night like Little Miss Molly
did at me at 3:33 am yesterday...there was a wild awakening this morning.
Molly jumped up on my bed around 4:30, walked up and placed her front paws
on my chest. I supposed she was going to woof, woof me awake. Instead she
sneezed right in my face the loudest I have ever heard her and as loud as a
human. It scared the daylights (well nightlights) out of me. I thought
someone had broken in. I yelled loudly. That scared Molly so bad that she
zoomed off the bed and went to the living area to hide. I immediately got
up, got molly and cuddled and loved her to calm her down. She was shaking
from fright. An explosive way to ask to go to her great outdoor bathroom. No
more sleep after 4:30. We took a walk in the cool of the morning. Life goes
on.
