...Another Nice October Day...

GOOD MORNING: It was a nice day for yard work yesterday. Lots of yard
work. After being on the road for most of the last thirteen weeks, I was
behind on projects. The digging out process will continue today, with more
nice weather in store.

ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: High pressure over New England continues to give us
an easterly wind flow, keeping moisture levels high. With no triggers to
spark convective development, we should be dry again today. Low stratus
clouds this morning will erode by late morning, giving way to a warm October
sun. Dry conditions will prevail into Wednesday, although clouds will be on
the increase by then thanks to a system in the Gulf. A front will approach
on Thursday, increasing our shower and storm chances. The front will stall
over South Alabama, meaning Friday will be still cloudy and showery. The
weekend looks promising, though.

TROPICS: Stan is back over the water this morning. The storm weakened to a
depression while over the Yucatan last evening, but it will strengthen
steadily, becoming a hurricane again before making landfall on the Mexican
coast late on Tuesday. We will be monitoring a disturbed area of weather
associated with a trough of low pressure east of the Bahamas. Both major
forecasting models bring the system into the Gulf by Tuesday. The GFS model
depicts a very unsettled situation across the Gulf and western Caribbean for
the next several days. In fact, the GFS develops a low over the southern
Gulf by the weekend and lifts it northeast across Florida and into the
Atlantic. Could see Tammy this week.

ON THIS DATE IN 2002: Hurricane Lili made landfall on the Louisiana coast
near New Iberia. The day before, Lili had intensified rapidly from a
Category Two to a Category Four hurricane as winds rose to 145 mph. At
early evening, the storm seemed to take an ominous northward turn toward New
Orleans, which was not evacuated. The storm weakened steadily during the
night, and max winds fell to 90 mph at landfall. Lili moved ashore about 8
a.m. on west coast of Vermillion Bay, just to the southwest of New Iberia.
