...Easterly Flow...
GOOD MORNING: The major feature on weather maps this morning is a large
ridge of high pressure along the East Coast. With the tail end of this
ridge just to our northeast, Alabama is under the influence of an easterly
surface flow. An easterly wind is an ill wind, it is often said. It this
case, it is sort of true. Those easterly winds will transport moist
Atlantic air into the state today. We will start off with a good bit of
clouds that will burn off by midmorning, giving way to partly cloudy skies.
A few light showers might break out tonight across the area. In fact, you
can expect a mix of sun and clouds through the weekend, with a continued
very slight chance of a shower at just about anytime.
RACE WEATHER: Expect decent weather for today's race and the big race
tomorrow. It will be partly cloudy today with warm temperatures for the 1st
of October. Tomorrow will feature more partly cloudy skies, with about a
ten percent chance of a shower during the race.
WEEK AHEAD: Expect partly sunny skies with a few rounds of showers through
midweek before a cold front approaches on Wednesday. .
TROPICS: Tropical Depression 19 is 1750 miles east of the islands and no
threat to land at this time. It could become Tropical Storm Stan today.
Tropical Depression 20 could forming the Northwest Caribbean today. It will
head toward the border of Texas and Mexico this week.
FOOTBALL FORECAST: The Alabama Crimson Tide will entertain the Florida
Gators this afternoon in Tuscaloosa. Conditions are expected to be partly
sunny and warm, with game time temperatures in the middle 80s. South
Carolina travels to Auburn and UAB takes on Rice in Legion Field at 6p.m.
Skies should be partly cloudy. Just a slight chance of a shower. Kickoff
temperatures will be around 79.
ON THIS DATE IN 1945: A Navy reconnaissance plane went down in a typhoon
in the South China Sea. The plane was the first Hurricane Hunter plane ever
to go down. The seven crewmembers were never found.
