DON'T WE DESERVE A BREAK? I sure think so and I have good news. No,
it is not because I have switched to a certain insurance company and saved a
bunch of money. Instead, as we look to the NW we see the coolest air so far
since last spring rolling toward the SE.

After all, the average high for the first 27 days of September was
90 and the average low 67 at both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. It has been 90
or higher on 15 days including nine such days in the last two weeks. So, the
front will be most welcomed with possible dancing in the streets even though
the cool spell will not last long.

The front will enter NW Alabama tomorrow morning and then move
through the entire state. There will be some showers, and possibly even a
thunderstorm along and in advance of the front. The wind will switch around
to the NW and increase to between 10 and 18 mph. Even that is enough to cool
you off. Crank in a high of 78 and it will be very nice.

Skies will clear Thursday night. How about these low temperatures
that we expect for Friday morning!:

46 in Desoto State Park
47 in Valley Head
48 in Gadsden
49 in Pinson and Anniston
53 at Birmingham Airport
Highs Friday with total sunshine will be near 80 but humidity will
be much lower. Most of the weekend will stay dry although we can't rule out
a slight chance of a shower on Sunday as it becomes more humid.

TROPICAL WEATHER: The ambitious tropical wave, mainly in the
Caribbean has become better organized today. A weak circulation has
developed along the SW part. Thunderstorm activity has increased and the
winds upstairs became more friendly overnight. The flight into the hurricane
was delayed until tomorrow, however. This will probably become a tropical
depression. If it grows more, to a tropical storm, it will be named Stan.

LOOKING AROUND: Another hard freeze this morning in the Sawtooth
Mountains of Idaho as the thermometer bottomed out at 22 at
Stanley...noticed the first sub-zero temperature of the season yesterday
morning at Alert, the northernmost weather station in Canada...another sign
of the season...a note from one of our readers reporting that autumn color
is just beginning at Saranac Lake, in upstate New York...hottest yesterday
was 106 in Gila Bend and Laredo, Texas.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Poor Little Miss Molly. When I went to
bed at 11 last night, Molly would not follow me as usual. Instead she got up
on the back of the couch and turned her face toward the back of the kitchen
where the garage door opens. I guess she was hoping Judy would come home. Of
course Molly, does not understand that she will be in the Desert Southwest
on Vacation for 8 more days. I finally picked her up and placed her on the
foot of the king-sized bed and she stayed there all night., Life goes on.
