...Alabama Needs Some Rain...

For most Alabama communities today will be the 14th consecutive day with no
rain, and the prospects for beneficial rain look very small for the next 15
days. This could be one of the driest Septembers on record if this
continues.

We will bring in the chance of a few showers on Thursday and Friday thanks
to an approaching front, but with very limited moisture and no upper support
the showers should be isolated. That front will reach central Alabama and
fizzle out this weekend as the main storm track across North America remains
well to the north.

Here is a list of the driest Septembers on record in Birmingham:

September 1955 0.00"
September 1927 0.03"
September 1899 0.05"
September 1931 0.14"
September 1984 0.16"

Afternoon temperatures will remain normal for the next few days; we expect
low 90s today and tomorrow, with upper 80s by Friday and over the weekend
ahead. Nights will remain relatively pleasant, with lows in the 60s.

TROPICS: Ophelia is still hanging around just off the coast of the
Carolinas; it is expected to move across the Outer Banks of North Carolina
as a minimal hurricane tomorrow, and then back out to sea late this week.
Elsewhere, the Atlantic basin is relatively quiet now.

ROAMING: Miami Beach, FL was soaked with 2.13" of rain yesterday. Hottest
place in the nation was Laredo, TX with 102. Coldest in the "lower 48"
yesterday morning was Stanley, ID with a frosty 18 degrees.
