...Eyes on Hurricane Rita...

Hurricane Rita will cause widespread misery and human suffering during the
next three days across parts of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana.
The storm will move ashore somewhere between Galveston Bay and the Sabine
River pass (the Texas/Louisiana border) sometime tonight, most likely as a
category four hurricane. This will lead to severe and widespread damage from
Galveston and Houston, eastward to Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Lake Charles.
Even if Rita weakens to category three status there will be major damage.

There is a good chance Rita will become nearly stationary, perhaps looping
back to the southwest, once inland over southeast Texas. This will lead to a
long period of extremely heavy tropical rain, and storm totals of 25 inches
are possible, leading to life threatening flash flooding for inland areas.

IN ALABAMA: Moisture will increase through the weekend, with scattered
showers and thunderstorms possible. The most numerous ones will be south of
I-20.
There could be an increase in the number of showers and storms here by the
latter half of next week as a front approaches the state and becomes
stationary over southern Tennessee.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama hosts Arkansas tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m.
Partly sunny weather in Tuscaloosa with a passing shower possible during the
game; kickoff temperature near 83. Western Kentucky will play Auburn at
Jordan-Hare stadium at 1:30; there will be cloudy periods during the game
with one or two showers possible. The temperature will be around 85 degrees
at kickoff.
