...A Calm Weekend...

GOOD MORNING: September 10th is traditionally the busiest day of the North
Atlantic Hurricane Season. Given that fact, you would expect there to be a
plethora of hurricane stories in the old Weather Notebook. And there are.
Look for them all day.

Maria will become a plain old low pressure system this morning, albeit a
strong one, over the far North Atlantic. Nate will be absorbed by a large
trough today. The next main event in a runaway season is Ophelia. It
appears the hurricane will do a dramatic loop back toward the East Coast,
probably along the coast of Georgia or the Carolinas. There is a chance
that the storm could become a major hurricane. Lets hope Ophelia does not
become another infamous name in the list of bad storms.

NICE WEEKEND: It does not appear that Ophelia will have a direct impact on
Alabama's weather. We will remain sandwiched between a trough of low
pressure to the west and Ophelia to the east. Consequently, we will remain
under a ridge of high pressure for the foreseeable future. This means more
dry weather, accompanied by warm afternoons and pleasantly mild nights.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Not much change seen in the medium range forecast either,
with high pressure remaining in control of our weather. This means nothing
in the way of rain through the weekdays this coming week. In fact, I can't
find an organized rain chance in the next ten days.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Mississippi State travels to the Plains to take on the
Tigers at 11:30 a.m. Skies will be clear with game time temperatures in the
lower 90s. The Crimson Tide takes on the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss at
6:45 p.m. in Tuscaloosa and UAB takes on Trojan in Troy at 7:00 p.m.
Temperatures at both venues will be dropping out the 80s into the 70s under
beautiful skies.

ON THIS DATE IN 1811: As a tropical storm passed near the city of
Charleston, South Carolina, it produced a significant tornado that moved
northwest across the center of the city. Sixty homes, many of them
mansions, were destroyed. Eleven people died.
