...Tropical Weather Remains Active...

Very dry air will remain across Alabama and we see no significant chance of
rain through Friday. Afternoons will remain warm with low humidity, and
nights will be very pleasant.

WEEKEND PEEK: At this point Saturday looks dry, and we will mention the
chance of a few isolated showers by Sunday afternoon. Then, the weather next
week all depends on the situation with tropical depression 16 (soon to be
tropical storm Ophelia).

TROPICS: Maria and Nate remain tropical systems that will stay over open
water and are no threat to land. A wave in the Gulf of Mexico is moving
westward, and could bring some heavy rain to parts of Texas by the end of
the week.

The system we will focus on is tropical depression 16, which is near
Freeport in the Bahamas, or east of the central Atlantic coast of Florida.
Steering currents are weak right now, which will make for a difficult
forecast. The latest official track from the National Hurricane Center puts
the system near Jacksonville as a strong tropical storm early in the
weekend. Then, the system moves westward generally along I-10. If this is
correct, moisture will increase dramatically early next week with lots of
rain.

However, some of the models take Ophelia on a more southward track, cutting
across the Florida peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico. All we can do at
this point is wait and watch.

GETTING DRY: Birmingham's rain surplus for 2005 is vanishing; as of today we
are only 0.41" above normal for the year, with a total of 38.39" since
January 1. Today will be the seventh day in a row with no rain.

ALL WET: Mobile's total for the year is a whopping 65.58", 17.31" above
normal.
