...Dry Days; Cooler Nights...
Our forecast for next seven days is a dry one. No rain through the middle of
next week with sunny days and clear pleasant nights. Early morning
temperatures will drop into the 60s, with some upper 50s possible in the
cooler valleys of north Alabama. Daytime highs should drop a few degrees by
Sunday and Monday as cooler air drains in here from the northeast.
TROPICS: The Atlantic is very active. Tropical depression Lee dissipated
last night in the north Atlantic. Tropical depression 14 is moving slowly to
the northwest over the central Atlantic and is no threat to land at this
time.
Catching our attention is a strong tropical wave about halfway between the
coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles. This has the potential to develop
into a tropical storm over the next few days as it moves to the west. Too
early to determine if this will keep moving into the Caribbean, or recurve
into the open Atlantic.
The good news is that the Gulf of Mexico is relatively quiet, and should
stay that way through the weekend. I do have concern that there will be one
or more hurricanes threatening some segment of the Gulf coast before the
season winds down.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: A clear sky for both the Alabama/Middle Tennessee State
game in Tuscaloosa (6:00 kickoff) and the Auburn/Georgia Tech game at
Jordan-Hare Stadium tomorrow night (7:45 kickoff). Temperatures will fall
into the 70s at both sites. UAB travels to Tennessee for an 11:30 a.m. game.
The sky will be sunny in Knoxville with a kickoff temperature of 82 degrees.
For tonight's high school games, the sky will be clear with temperatures in
the low 80s at kickoff, falling into the 70s during the games.
