...The Heat Cranks Up Again...

The heat will crank up a notch across Alabama today and tomorrow as the
mercury reaches the mid 90s. We will maintain the chance of a few afternoon
showers and storms, but they should be a little more widely scattered
compared to recent days thanks to a more stable atmosphere.

AUGUST COLD FRONT: A rare August front, helped along by a strong upper air
trough forming over the eastern U.S., will push through Alabama on Sunday,
and will bring a very welcome change to less humid conditions by Monday and
Tuesday. Nights will be cooler as well; by Tuesday morning we expect most
places to drop into the 60 to 65 degree range. Some of the cooler valleys
over north Alabama might even wind up in the refreshing upper 50s.

AT THE BEACH: Typical summer weather for the weekend along the central Gulf
coast. About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily with a few scattered storms.
Highs along the immediate coast will be in the low 90s, and the sea water
temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab late yesterday was a very warm 91
degrees.

TROPICS: A tropical wave, former tropical depression 10, continues moving
through the Atlantic. It should be near the southern tip of Florida early
next week, and there is still potential for some development.

MORE DOWNPOURS: Rain totals yesterday included 1.52" at Harris Dam on the
Tallapoosa River in Randolph county, .91" at Greystone Cove, and .88" at
Inverness. Our weather watcher in Inverness, Alston Keith, also reports a
total of 6.02" for the month of August so far, and rain on 12 of the first
18 days of the month.

AUGUST TORNADOES: At least three tornadoes touched down yesterday in
Wisconsin.
