A COOL FRONT IN OUR FUTURE? Maybe so, but it is not sealed in titanium yet.
There are indications that cooler air spreading south from the Upper Midwest
and the Great Lakes will send a front through Central Alabama either late
Sunday or early next week. While we cannot be 100% sure, we are wording our
forecast to reflect some lower humidity and cooler nights starting early in
the week. See our day-by-day forecast for the details.
Meanwhile, we have more thunderstorms to deal with this afternoon and this
evening. Some of those again will be strong producing way, way too much
lightning and some communities will get downpours. It seems like it has been
going on forever, but do not be surprised to see a few severe thunderstorm
or flash flood warnings. The storms should fade away mostly by 9:00 p.m.
There may be a slight decrease in showers and thunderstorms Friday and
especially on Saturday. Conditions aloft will favor Saturday as being one of
our hotter days so far this year.
If that "cold" front comes on through, our coolest morning should be Tuesday
with some mid 60s possible across Central Alabama. It will be a few degrees
cooler than that in places like Valley Head, Bridgeport and Hamilton. Not
totally out of the question to hear of a low somewhere around 59.
TROPICAL WEATHER: We are so glad to say, "Goodbye, Irene." In fact, we are
even singing it. Would you believe that she has been around so long that the
final advisory today was number 56! She has pestered us since August 4. Also
in the tropics, former TD #10 was dissipating way out in the Atlantic. If he
could have held together and become a tropical storm it would have been
Jose. Recent models had pointed it along the north coast of Cuba and
possibly headed for Florida.
HINTS OF A CHANGING SEASON: Low temperatures have been in the mid 20s
consistently for the last week over Northern Canada. This morning it was 28
in good old Deadhorse, Alaska. That is just a hint of our changing season
that is not too far away...the cold spots in the lower 48 have been in the
NW recently, but this morning the coldest places were Whitefield, New
Hampshire with 35 and Saranac Lake, New York with 36. It is going to be very
chilly in Yellowstone National Park in the next few days.in sharp contrast,
a heat advisory continued this afternoon from NE Texas, NW Louisiana and the
south two-thirds of Arkansas.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly has been in a chair-stealing
mood today. Every single time one of us got up to go get coffee or move
around, she would immediately plop down where we were sitting. She did not
want to get up and when we picked her up, she lets out a long, slow, moan
and groan and looks at us like we are mistreating her. Nice walk this
morning. Amazing lack of varmints. I have seen very few spiders this year
and I cannot remember seeing a single mosquito. I love it that way. Life is
more pleasurable without having to slap all kinds of varmints with my little
blue scoop. The scoop gets plenty of work doing "other things" especially
because I do a lot of guest scoops. My only claim to fame will be that of a
"poop eliminator!" But, that is an honorable occupation.
