MORE MEAN STORMS: Storms formed quickly by midday and they sure
were making a lot of noise this afternoon. Unfortunately, they are
slow-movers which allows buckets of rain on some communities while others
don't get any. The lightning is almost continuous and we cannot emphasize
how dangerous that is.
The storms will continue this afternoon and into the evening. Not
out of the question that somebody will get a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or
Flash Flood Warning before the day is over.

That is going to be the same worn out story for tomorrow. In fact,
there could be an increase in storms tomorrow. We have those storms in the
forecast every single day, but they may be fewer in number Friday and
Saturday.

A COOL FRONT IN OUR FUTURE? There is a possibility, but there is
also a good chance that it will stall before reaching Central Alabama. Cold
fronts are rare this time of year, but we certainly get them occasionally.
It is getting that time of year where there is a slightly better chance.
Even as recent as last year, we had record lows in the mid 50s for three
mornings in a row about this time. Some of the computerized guidance brings
the cool front all the way down into South Alabama by early in the week. If
that happens, we could see some lows in the 60s.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Hurricane Irene is way up in the North Atlantic
and a concern only to ships, sharks and whales. Old TD No. 10 is looking
stronger and may redevelop. A plane will look at the potential future Jose
tomorrow. Models hint he could be a USA guy.

LITTLE FROGS AND FALSE RAINFALL: Out of Wilmington, North Carolina,
this strange story. NWS had been getting some false rain gauge readings for
a couple of months. They finally discovered that small frogs were jumping
into the rain gauge where official measurements were taken. Those type
stations actually weigh the rain.

BIG BAD CAMILLE: James Spann has already written an excellent story
about super powerful Hurricane Camille on our weather blog. Only thing I
want to add is that I was on vacation near Salt Lake City the night Camille
came ashore. I drove up on an elevated area east of Ogden and listened for
hours to WWL, New Orleans. It is a legendary 50,000 watt blow torch heard in
many states. I got good reception and was totally mesmerized listening to
their continuous wall-to-wall coverage and the play-by-play account as it
moved inland on the Mississippi coast.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Poor Little Miss Molly. Actually we
went to bed early last night and I thought she would be up at 5:00. She
slept until 9:00 and we immediately went on our morning walk. It was plenty
hot. We heard one lone bird talking continuously near the Old Crow Motel and
finally another one across the walking track cranked up also. I am sure they
were talking about us and probably accusing Molly and I of being intruders.
At the end of the track I said, "Let us go back home, Molly and get a
treat." She always reacts immediately, but she had a short memory span this
morning and left the track five times to scrounge. Each time I would say,
"Treat, Molly, treat." and she would take off again. We got home she was so
hot that she stretched out on the the cool hardwood floor. I had to deliver
her treat! Life goes. On, hot dogs and hot humans.
