...You Could Be In Fresno...

GOOD MORNING! I have been hearing lots of complaints about our recent spate
of monotonous weather. One NWS forecaster even referred to it a the summer
doldrums. But I will take our showery, slightly cooler than normal albeit
oh so humid weather over what has been happening in Fresno, California.
Before this year, there had been two twenty day streaks of 100+
temperatures. Through Friday, the beautiful city in the San Joaquin Valley
had recorded twenty one consecutive days with highs over 100F, a new record.
On Saturday, cooler, marine layer air made its way into the Valley ahead of
an approaching upper level disturbance. The high yesterday was only 95F, so
the streak came to an end.

THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: Some pretty good showers and storms yesterday
across the area, with a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings needed. Late
morning storms formed over Northeast Alabama. Areas west of I-65 enjoyed a
great deal of sunshine and temperatures warmed nicely into the 90-93F range.

Storms fired quickly during the afternoon over West Alabama. Some of those
dumped a lot of rain very quickly.

More showers and storms will for on Sunday, but the areal coverage should
drop just a tad. Temperatures will be warm once again, with highs ranging
between 88-93F. And once again, the storms will dump some pretty heavy rain
in a short amount of time. Watch out for the lightning also. Monday looks
to be a carbon copy of Sunday. Rain chances will increase a bit as a front
stalls to the north of Alabama by midweek. It will fizzle and a second
front will approach in time for the weekend.

ON THIS DATE IN 1969: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center had been
tracking a tropical wave across the Atlantic since August 5th. On the
morning of August 14, 1969, the wave was in the western Caribbean. Air
Force reconnaissance crews were dispatched to two areas associated with the
vigorous wave. One in the Bahamas and one near the Cayman Islands. More
this afternoon.
