...Typical Summer Weather...

All of the usual summer elements will be in our forecast this weekend: sun, afternoon storms, heat, and humidity. Daytime temperatures will rise to near 90 degrees in most spots, and the best chance of a passing shower or storm will come from about 1:00 until 8:00 p.m. This typical summer weather pattern should hold into next week.

AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine each day along the central Gulf coast this weekend, with a few scattered showers and storms. High temperatures will be in the 87 to 90 degree range along the immediate coast, and the sea water temperature late yesterday was 88 degrees at Dauphin Island.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Tropical storm Irene could become a hurricane this weekend as it moves to the west/northwest through the western Atlantic. According to the official NHC forecast track, the storm is forecast to sideswipe the North Carolina coast by Tuesday of next week before moving back out to sea. There is considerable disagreement with the computer models on the ultimate destination of Irene, hopefully the core of the system will remain offshore, but that is only a possibility. Everyone from Jacksonville northward to Boston will need to watch this one.

Elsewhere, a few tropical waves are scattered across the eastern Atlantic, but are showing no signs of organization at this time.

YESTERDAY: Storms were more widely spaced across Alabama yesterday. Rain totals included .42” at Clanton, .32” at Lay Dam on the Coosa River, and .15” at Haleyville.

ROAMING: Hottest place in the nation yesterday was Death Valley, CA with 115 degrees. Slow moving storms dropped 2.11” of rain at Tallahassee, Florida.
