...Dangerous Heat Today...

GOOD MORNING: Temperatures will soar well into the 90s across North and
Central Alabama today with little in the way of clouds or precipitation to
slow them down. The combination of the high temperatures and high dew
points will result in heat indices of 105-110 degrees across much of the
area. This excessive heat can be very dangerous, and you will want to
remember your heat safety guidelines. Dress appropriately with light
colored, loose fitting clothes. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquids.
Take frequent breaks in a cool place.

THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: Today could very well be the hottest day of the
year so far in some locations. The hottest readings observed so far this
year include: 94F at Birmingham, 96 at Anniston, 97 at Tuscaloosa and 94 at
Calera. Thunderstorms will be very scarce again today as a ridge of high
pressure continues across the area. Moisture levels continue to be very
high, with some of the highest dew points we have observed this summer last
evening. So, humidity levels will continue quite high today and tomorrow.
Any storms that do manage to form will be accompanied by brief heavy
rainfall.

COLD FRONT: A real live cold front is rumored to be heading towards
Alabama. By Sunday morning, the front will be moving southward into
Tennessee. The exact timing of the front's arrival is iffy, but it appears
that it will be late Sunday night or Monday morning. A line of showers and
storms should form and push ahead of the frontal system. Some of these
storms could be strong to severe Sunday. Behind the front, fair, dry
weather will prevail with much lower dew points and lows dropping deep into
the 60s!

ON THIS DATE IN 1886: The town of Indianola TX was a prosperous seaport on
Matagorda Bay. On the morning of August 20, 1886, a hurricane inundated the
low lying sandspit that the town occupied. Almost everything in the town
was destroyed by the hurricane. The survivors abandoned the town and it was
never rebuilt.
