...Look Out For More Afternoon Storms...

Today's forecast package will again feature developing showers and
thunderstorms after the lunch hour. The chance of any one spot getting wet
is about one in three, and like recent days some of the storms will be
strong with plenty of lightning and very heavy rain.

TOMORROW AND SATURDAY: Warmer air aloft should mean fewer afternoon
storms, and slightly hotter temperatures. Most places should top out in the
93 to 96 degree range with lots of hazy summer sunshine.

AN AUGUST FRONT?? The models continue to be rather aggressive in
pushing a surface cold front through Alabama Sunday night and early Monday.
Doesn't happen too often in August, but it is certainly possible. We will
expect to see an increase in showers and storms Sunday afternoon and night,
followed by drier air on Monday and Tuesday.

Any showers that form early next week should mostly be over south
Alabama (we are assuming the model solution is correct), and our humidity
values should be lower. The dry air will also mean cooler nights; there is a
chance we get into the comfortable low to mid 60s by early Tuesday morning
of next week.

TROPICS: We still expect former tropical depression ten to regain
depression status today or tomorrow, ultimately becoming tropical storm
Jose. The system is expected to be somewhere around the Bahamas early next
week. It could turn northward at that point in the direction of the
Carolinas, or drift on across southern Florida into the Gulf of Mexico.. Too
early to tell at this time.

MORE SUMMER SOAKERS: One of the heaviest rain totals in Alabama
yesterday was 2.62" measured at Troy.
