BULLETIN...IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOBILE AL
1058 PM CDT SAT JUL 9 2005

...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE IN MOBILE HAS ISSUED
A FLOOD WATCH THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT...

THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES ARE INCLUDED IN THE FLOOD WATCH...

IN SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI...GEORGE...STONE...PERRY...GREENE AND WAYNE
COUNTIES.

IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA...WASHINGTON...ESCAMBIA...MOBILE...BALDWIN...
COVINGTON...CONECUH...MONROE...CLARKE...CHOCTAW...WILCOX...BUTLER...
AND CRENSHAW COUNTIES...

IN NORTHWEST FLORIDA...OKALOOSA...ESCAMBIA AND SANTA ROSA COUNTIES.

HURRICANE DENNIS...OVER THE EAST CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO...IS EXPECTED
TO CONTINUE MOVING NORTHWEST AND REACH THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO
LATER TONIGHT. BASED ON THE LATEST OFFICIAL FORECAST TRACK...
HURRICANE DENNIS WILL MAKE LANDFALL AS A MAJOR HURRICANE ALONG THE
NORTH CENTRAL GULF COAST REGION EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. BANDS OF
HEAVY SQUALLS AROUND HURRICANE DENNIS WILL BRING VERY HEAVY RAINS TO
THE REGION TONIGHT...THEN INCREASING ON SUNDAY. WIDESPREAD RAINFALL
AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE FROM 5 TO 10 INCHES WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS
OF 15 INCHES OR GREATER POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY ALONG THE NORTH AND
EAST SIDE OF THE STORM. ACCORDING TO THE LATEST FORECAST TRACK...THE
HEAVIEST RAINS ARE EXPECTED TO BE MAINLY ACROSS ALL OF EXTREME
NORTHWEST FLORIDA AND MOST OF SOUTHWEST ALABAMA AS DENNIS TRACKS
NORTHWESTWARD AFTER LANDFALL.

NEARLY SATURATED GROUNDS FROM TROPICAL STORM CINDY EARLIER IN THE
WEEK...WILL RESULT IN MORE RUNOFF AND INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR
WIDESPREAD DANGEROUS FLOODING ACROSS THE WATCH AREA.

IF YOU LIVE NEAR AREAS THAT DO NOT DRAIN WELL AND ARE FLOOD PRONE DUE
TO EXCESSIVE RAINFALL...YOU MAY WANT TO SET PLANS INTO ACTION TO MOVE
TO HIGHER GROUND.

PEOPLE IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER AND BE
PREPARED FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION SHOULD HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING OCCUR
OR A FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED.

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES ATTEMPTING TO CROSS FLOODED
AREAS. RAPIDLY RISING WATER CAN EASILY CARRY A VEHICLE AND ITS
OCCUPANTS DOWN STREAM. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS
HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODING. REMEMBER TO TURN
AROUND...DON'T DROWN.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER
UPDATES ON THE PROGRESS OF HURRICANE DENNIS.
