Looks like we will go most of the coming week without unusually hot weather
and several degrees lower than we had earlier this week.
Instead of those sultry highs of 95, 96, or 97, the ole thermometer will
hang out close to the 90-degree line. That's almost exactly normal for the
end of July and early August.
A cool front tippy-toed into NW Alabama Friday. Mind you, there were no big
drops in temperature, but the dew points were lower. Cloudiness along the
front held high temperatures down Friday.
There were also some big thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and
evening. One of those dumped 2.16 inches of rain at Birmingham Airport in a
relatively short time. Further south, there was some wind damage in Calera.
Extremely heavy rain fell Friday night in SE Alabama, especially from
Montgomery SE toward Troy.
Look for more scattered showers and thunderstorms for the next five days. We
canâ??t take them out of the forecast completely.
TROPICAL WEATHER: Finally, the Hurricane Center issued the final advisory on
Tropical Storm Franklin late Friday. He was way up in the North Atlantic and
will be moving over cooler waters losing his tropical personality. Now we
will focus on a strong tropical wave moving through the Northern Leeward
Islands. It may be a tropical depression sometime today over the extreme NE
Caribbean. This one could possibly stay far enough south to get in the Gulf
of Mexico, but we are not sure.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I'm covering for Bill Murray this morning since
he is on the road. He has covered for me many times. I sure have been
playing with Little Miss Molly Friday afternoon and Friday night. I owed her
a bunch. I have never seen a little 9-pound animal that is so ready to play
that it's like turning on an electric switch. No matter how tired or sleepy
she is, she will respond. Life goes on through rain or shine, heat or cold.
