Moist air will remain across most of Alabama today, and our forecast package
will reflect scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms through this
evening. Like recent days, some heavy rain is likely under the stronger
storms as they won't be moving much. Temperatures will remain below 90
degrees again today thanks to cloudy periods and showers.

THE WEEKEND: We will forecast scattered, mainly afternoon thunderstorms
tomorrow and Sunday with some good intervals of morning sunshine. High
temperatures will be in the 87 to 90 degree range, and the chance of any one
spot getting wet is about one in three.

AT THE BEACH: A broad area of low pressure is expected to form near the
coast over the weekend; so a few passing showers or storms are likely
tomorrow and Sunday with only about 2 to 4 hours of sunshine each day. The
water is very warm; the sea surface temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea
Lab yesterday afternoon was 92 degrees, about as warm as it gets.

TROPICS: While tropical storm Franklin moves out to sea, another disturbance
east of the Leeward Islands has the potential to become tropical storm
Harvey today. It is moving in the general direction of the Bahamas, and
could threaten the east coast of Florida next week.

MORE BAMA SOAKERS: Rain totals yesterday included 1.74" at Northport, 1.63"
at Fort Payne, 1.43" at Alpine, 1.15" at Clanton, 1.09" at Vincent, .91" at
Inverness, and .77" at Sylacauga.

ROAMING: Yesterday's high at Midland, TX was only 74 degrees, a few record
low maximum for the date. The old record was 87 in 1991. Coldest place in
the nation yesterday was Wisdom, MT with a frosty low of 32 degrees!
