THE WEEDS KEEP GROWING: No reason for them not to-they have been getting
all the rain they can drink and there's not much chance of us getting a good
break any time soon.
Bill Murray reports 6.91 inches of rain in just the last 10 days at his
place in South Trussville. At Birmingham Airport, measurable rain has fallen
on 10 of the first 13 days of July. That's almost 80% chance.
We still have plenty of moisture in place and we will have a good chance of
showers and thunderstorms into the early weekend. We believe they will thin
out on Sunday and Monday, but even then we will still have scattered, mostly
afternoon, storms. It appears that there will be an upsurge in showers and
storms tomorrow. These storms feature a lot of lightning and quick heavy
downpours. Don't be surprised to see some communities get well over an inch
of rain Friday while others are left high and dry. With fewer storms, high
temperatures will edge upward into the lower 90s Sunday and Monday.
HURRICANE EMILY: She was located in the eastern edge of the Caribbean this
afternoon and she was growing stronger. It appears that Emily will become a
major hurricane as she progresses toward the NW all the way through the
Caribbean and possibly making landfall on the north edge of the Yucatan
Peninsula late Sunday night. By Tuesday morning she is expected to be over
the SW Gulf of Mexico. We don't know where the eventual landfall will be.
The favored place is on the east coast of Mexico, but it could be extreme
South Texas. We think that Emily will not affect the Mississippi-Alabama-NW
Florida coast. So if you have lingered over finalizing your vacation plans,
why not go ahead.
ROAMING FAR AND WIDE: Wally Coker, 33/40 Weather Watcher for Center Point,
got 1.50 inches of rain late yesterday bringing his July total to
7.12...Oxford now has 6.11 inches for July...way up in Billings, Montana,
our friend Todd Fosey sends an interesting note. It was 106 in Billings
yesterday-only 2 degrees short of their all-time high of 108...skipping
around the world for some spot reports it was 116 degrees with a humidity of
6% in Salah, Algeria while Esquel, Argentina had a cold 23. (It's mid winter
there!)...USA extremes: 123 in Death Valley Wednesday...34 this morning at
Meacham, Oregon and Stanley, Idaho.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: It's quiet as a graveyard at midnight in our
house today. The eerie quietness is because little Miss Molly is away at the
PBS (Puppy Beauty Shop) getting a haircut. She is going to look so funny
when she gets home. We asked for a summer cut, which means she will have a
velvet-like coat. With more hair cut back from her face, her eyes will seem
twice as big and that spells trouble for me. She can make me do anything
with those eyes. When she gets home, she will have a neat little bow around
her neck and she will smell so good. You bet she will get lots of attention
tonight...all six times I have gone to the kitchen to get coffee today,
there were no little paws raking down the back of my leg. Miss Molly always
did that to alert me that it was ballgame time. You can bet I miss her. I'm
afraid I'm way too attached. Life goes on.
