...More Tropical Downpours...

BIG TIME DOWNPOURS: Quite an array of tropical downpours across Alabama
yesterday. A whopping 5.83" of rain fell at Trussville in a very short
period of time resulting in significant flash flooding. Flooding was also a
major problem n Moody, Huffman, Roebuck, and Center Point. A severe storm
over Walker county prompted a tornado warning for a brief time and was
responsible for more flooding. Our online weather watcher in Jasper measured
3.28". In Cullman county, a bridge was washed out southwest of Jones Chapel
and Alabama 69 was underwater for a while near Bug Tussle. Other rain
reports included 4.17" from one of our weather watchers in Trussville, 2.88"
at Huffman, 2.80" at J.B. Elliott's place in the northeast part of
Trussville, and 1.83" at Center Point. We only measured .14" at Riverchase.

TODAY: Very moist tropical air remains in place, and scattered to numerous
showers and storms are likely with more very heavy downpours possible.

THE WEEKEND: Showers and storms will gradually thin out, and by Sunday and
Monday they should be very widely spaced as afternoon temperatures move into
the low 90s.

AT THE BEACH: A good chance of a few showers or storms along the central
Gulf coast today, but for the weekend increasing amounts of sunshine and
fewer showers. Temperatures will rise into the 87 to 90 degree range.

EMILY: Hurricane Emily will move through the Caribbean over the next few
days, and seems to be headed in the general direction of the Mexican Gulf
coast for a landfall late Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. She could be a
very strong hurricane at the time of landfall.
