...Air Quality Alert...

GOOD MORNING! The Alabama Department of Environmental Management has
issued an Air Quality Alert for today. The Air Quality Index is
expected to be 105, which is above the threshold for an Orange, or
Unhealthy Level. This means that air will be unhealthy for sensitive
groups, including those with heart or lung diseases, young people and
older adults. These people should refrain from prolonged or heavy
outdoor exertion. Some air quality alert action steps:

Car pool or take public transportation
Combine errands
Walk or ride your bike
Avoid drive thru lines
Don't use gas powered lawn equipment

OUR FORECAST: High pressure is in control of Alabama's weather this
morning. It will give us another hot, hazy and humid day.
Visibilities on Wednesday were reduced to 5 miles at times in haze. A
strong temperature inversion will continue to trap pollutants near the
surface again today. Temperatures today will top out in the lower 90s
in most locations. A couple of isolated showers developed Thursday
afternoon, and we can't rule that out today either, but the chances of
rain at any one location are very small.

Some subtle changes will give us a little hope as we head into the
weekend. Our high pressure ridge will slide just enough east to give
us more southeasterly winds. Moisture levels will gradually increase,
and Friday and Saturday's isolated storms will increase a bit in
coverage as we head into Sunday and the new week.

ON THIS DATE IN 1957: On the basis of meteorological data and a radio
report from a shrimp boat, the Weather Bureau in New Orleans issued
the first advisory on a tropical depression in the Bay of Campeche at
10:30 PM. The depression was located 300 miles south of Brownsville
TX. The storm would become
Hurricane Audrey.
