...Unusually Nice For June...

GOOD MORNING! I agree with the thoughts of a very nice reader who praised our beautiful June weather in a Friday afternoon note. “I love the weather we’ve been having, with the wonderful ocean winds blowing in from the tropical storm, and then, now, this cool front!” I concur wholeheartedly.

PLEASANT JUNE WEATHER: Last evening, I saw an unusual sight for a mid-June night. When Atlanta pitcher Horacio Ramirez reached base in the 6th inning of the Braves-Cincinnati game, he actually summoned a warmup jacket from the dugout. You won’t see that very often. The same airmass that brought the cool air and low humidity to the Great American Ballpark in Cincy is the same one that is giving us a comfortable June morning here at home.

Cool high pressure over the Great Lakes is the source of the delightful airmass. It will continue to give us warm, mostly sunny days and cool, comfortable nights for the next few days. Temperatures tonight will drop to near 0 degrees over most of the area, including a few upper 50s in some of the normally cooler locations.

Humidity levels will remain low through Monday, before temperatures and dew points begin increasing steadily. Temperatures will be near to just above normal by Wednesday, continuing into the weekend.

There is one fly in the ointment, however. An upper level low pressure system is expected to retrograde, or move east to west toward Alabama. This may set off an isolated shower or storm over eastern sections of the state. But for the most part, any rain chances will be small and limited to areas mainly east of Alabama.

END OF THE WEEK AND BEYOND: Moisture levels should finally increase to the point that afternoon and evening showers and storms will return by Friday. Still, rain chances will be low even then.

ON THIS DATE IN 1992: A severe thunderstorm, replete with funnel cloud forced the evacuation of the control tower at the Indianapolis Airport.
