...Still Hot Today; Drier Air Filters In...
Once again today hot weather will headline our forecast package, as most communities should climb into the 90 to 94 degree range this afternoon with a good supply of sunshine. A surface front will drift through the state today, but the air is so dry we wont mention rain in our formal forecast at this point. Should any showers or storms form during the heat of the day, they should be very widely separated.
The heat backs off beginning tomorrow, and by Friday and the weekend high temperatures will be in the mid 80s. Lower humidity values will also help to make temperatures more comfortable tomorrow and Friday.
WEEKEND PEEK: At the moment the weekend looks mostly rain-free with warm afternoons and pleasant nights. A major upper trough over the eastern U.S. will keep temperatures at or below normal levels for mid-June.
TROPICS: Disturbed weather continues over the Caribbean, but upper air winds are fairly strong and there is no evidence of any surface circulation at this time. If something happens to develop in that region, the system would be forced to move northeast in a few days thanks to the upper trough forming over the eastern U.S.
YESTERDAYS HEAT: Yesterday was the hottest day so far this year for most Alabama communities. Birminghams high was 92; the first time the city has dealt with 90 degree heat since August 28, 2004. Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Mobile all reached 94 degrees.
AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 10 hours of sunshine each day through the weekend with only widely scattered storms. Temperatures will peak in the upper 80s on the immediate coast. The water temperature hit 85 degrees yesterday.
