...Heating Up...

GOOD MORNING! Alright. I am going to chalk the typo that I had in yesterday’s forecast narrative up to wishful thinking. I thought that I had corrected the 0 degree low I called for tonight in all versions (it was supposed to be 60 degrees.) Thanks to all the kind readers who gave me a little sweet ribbing. You can unwrap the pipes now. And put the dog back outside. You guys are great!

WISHFUL THINKING: By Wednesday, any thoughts of 0 degree temperatures will be wishful thinking as we head into some hot weather. We should see 90 degrees around here by Wednesday, with temperatures at least in the lower 90s during the latter half of the week into next week.

FOR YOUR SUNDAY: Today looks like it will be very similar to yesterday, with lots of sunshine, puffy cumulus clouds developing and a light northerly breeze. There might be a tiny chance of a shower or storm developing over eastern sections, which will be closer to the trough of low pressure over Georgia, but most areas will remain high and dry.

WEEK AHEAD: Things should be dry through Monday, with widely scattered afternoon and evening storms possible during the remainder of the week. Temperatures will gradually head above normal for late June.

TROPICS: The Atlantic Basin is calm at this time, but the GFS tries to stir up low pressure over the southern Gulf in the next couple of days, moving it toward Tampa. We will be monitoring this closely.

ON THIS DATE IN 1922: The Tiros V satellite was launched. The Tiros series was held in a nearly circular orbit at an altitude of about 475 miles. It took one hundred minutes for the satellite to make one orbit around the Earth, or about 14.5 times per day. Thirty two photos were taken per orbit. The images were stored on magnetic tape and relayed to ground stations as the satellite passed over. The first four Tiros satellites could not accurately “see” weather north or south at 55 degrees. The Tiros V could “see” to about 65 degrees latitude.
