...Only Isolated Storms Today...

GOOD MORNING! Well. Last weekend we predicted a wet week ahead, and it seems that we got one. Today will be basically dry, with only isolated showers or storms developing with the heat of the day. The low clouds and fog that are out there in our soupy airmass will begin to break up around midmorning, with a good supply of sunshine returning for the remainder of the day.

FORECAST: Skies will become fair again tonight before more low clouds and fog form during the overnight. Lows will only drop into the upper 60s and near 70, with muggy air in place. Expect a repeat performance on Sunday, with morning stratus clouds/fog again giving way to sunshine. But there will be a better chance of showers and storms Monday and Tuesday as energy from the Gulf rotates up into the South, but even then, the showers and storms should only be scattered. The remainder of the week will feature more scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms, as a typical summertime pattern sets in across Alabama.

BEACH FORECAST: Typical summertime weather along the gorgeous beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida for the coming week. Just scattered afternoon and evening storms along coastal sections with highs in the middle 80s and lows near 70. Gulf water temperature: 80F.

TROPICS: An area of disturbed weather extends from the western Caribbean into the eastern Gulf of Mexico this morning. Weak low pressure is south of Cuba. The weak low is southeast of the upper level trough over the U.S. and west of an upper level high over the Atlantic. The upper wind pattern is unfavorable for development at this time. It should move northeast with time.

ON THIS DATE IN 1979: Torrential rains and high winds caused the roof of the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri to collapse. No injuries resulted in the nighttime collapse of the venue for the 1976 Republican National Convention. Only security and maintenance personnel were on the premises when the roof fell. Just the night before, the building had been full for a tractor pull event.
