ALABAMA HAS BEEN WET DOWN: No way you could find blowing dust or a forest
fire around Alabama today. This latest storm system has given the entire
state a good soaking.

And a soaking it was. Overnight the rain fell steady and at a pace where a
good part of it soaked into the thirsty ground. For extreme North Alabama,
last night was the first good rain because they missed out on most of the
weekend rain. An example is Black Creek in NE Etowah County where 1.84
inches fell overnight. All last weekend they had only received less than 1/4
inch.

Check the ABC 33/40 weather blog for a complete roundup of rainfall amounts.
They are too numerous to mention here, but we should say as much 4.70 inches
fell in Rainbow City since last Sunday and 2.96 inches has fallen just since
midnight at the 33/40 weather net site on the east side of Tuscaloosa. A
storm total of 4.38 in North Coosa.

The low pressure system was moving north near the Alabama-Mississippi border
this afternoon. It was pulling warmer air northward and the temperature had
reached the 80s in parts of South Alabama. At noon, however, it was only 59
atop Mt. Cheaha and in Mentone as the wedge effect was bringing cool, damp
air from North Georgia. In the Atlanta area, east winds were gusting to near
30 mph with temperatures in the low 60s, while South Georgia had mid 80s.

These differing air masses don't like each other at all, so the Storm
Prediction Center posted a Tornado Watch for a big part of SE Georgia this
afternoon.

DOWN THE ROAD FOR ALABAMA: That low pressure area will continue to move
slowly north and eventually fizzle. This will leave warm humid air draped
across Alabama, so we can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms pretty
much on a daily basis, at least through the weekend. We believe, however,
that starting tomorrow we won't have the all-day rain situations and the
showers and storms will be fewer and scattered in nature. Still a decent
chance of rain each day however.

FAR AND WIDE: Too much significant stuff to mention here, but there were
some major mud slides at Laguna Beach, California with a few injuries and
quite a few homes destroyed...in West and Central Texas in the last 24
hours, 96 reports of hail, 23 reports of strong winds and 5 tornadoes...a
tornado also north of the Tampa-St. Petersburg area...cold spot this morning
was 25 in Meredith, Colorado...it was 108 Tuesday in Death Valley.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly has been a good little girl
for not getting in trouble lately, but she did try to pull a fast one. After
leaving my upscale pillow alone for months and months, she has tried to
steal it again. The burglary in progress was caught before it could be
finished. She had tugged it toward the foot of the king-sized bed and no
doubt would have pulled it off on the floor and drug it into the living area
to add to her other two blankets. Long walk in the wind and rain this
morning. She loves to paddle in the water, even several inches deep. She
scrounged in the wet grass too and when she got home she looked like a wet,
black dishrag. She was ready for an immediate baseball game. I obliged. Life
goes on.
