...The Warming Trend Continues...

GOOD MORNING! Saturday was a beautiful day across the area with lots and lots of sunshine and warm temperatures. Today promises to be a lot like yesterday. We had advertised warmer readings for today, and that looks valid, but I don’t think we will see the warmest readings of the year so far anywhere. As sure as I say that, it will be 95 somewhere.

UNCERTAIN TIMES AHEAD: At least in the weather department. The upper flow over Alabama continues to be out of the northwest, which can lead to some tricky forecasts. Such a pattern is typically busy with impulses that can bring in thunderstorm complexes from time to time, so we will be watching for those.

We will also be watching a weak cold front that will be approaching the area from the northwest tonight and on Monday. This front may set off a few showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two on Monday. The Storm Prediction Center has included Alabama in a slight risk outlook area for severe weather on Monday. I guess that is possible. We might have some hail and wind from any storms that fire, especially with the heat of the day added in. Still, the models have really backed off on rain chances through Monday, so we will have to wait and see.

Tuesday and Wednesday look dry at this time, but we will have to monitor that tricky northwest flow. On Friday, another cold front will approach the area, giving us more shower and storm chances. The front may stall across the area on Saturday and Sunday, maintaining those rain chances through much of the weekend.

ON THIS DATE IN 1960: An 8.6 magnitude earthquake off the coast of South Central Chile caused a Pacific-wide tsunami.

ON THIS DATE IN 1987: A violent tornado destroyed the town of Saragosa Texas. Thirty people were killed and eleven were injured in the town of only 183 people. 85% of the town’s buildings were wiped off the face of the earth. Many of the victims were parents or grandparents of 4-year-old children at a head start recognition ceremony.
