...Not Much Rain This Weekend...

The good news is that a cold front will ease through Alabama over the
weekend, bringing drier and cooler air in here by Sunday and Monday. The
other bit of good news is that rain should be limited to Saturday night, and
amounts should be light. That means outdoor activities during the day
Saturday and Sunday should not be bothered much by wet weather. The bad news
is that it won't rain all that much at most places.

Sure, we all like a nice weekend, but we sure need some rain. Birmingham's
total for the month of May is only 0.01", and the rain deficit for the year
is now 5.40". Looks like most places will get a quarter inch or less over
the weekend, with the best chance of rain coming from about 6:00 p.m.
Saturday through 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

Most of next week looks rain free at this point; we might see a few
scattered afternoon showers over the latter half of the week, but nothing
really organized or heavy.

BEACH FORECAST: Lots of sunshine on the central Gulf coast today and
tomorrow with daytime highs around 80 on the immediate coast. A few
scattered showers or storms will show up on Sunday, but no wash-out. The sea
water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on the Alabama coast is now
running at 77 degrees.

THURSDAY'S WARMTH: High temperatures across Alabama yesterday included 91 in
Tuscaloosa and Decatur, 90 at Huntsville, and 89 at Anniston and Muscle
Shoals. The official high for Birmingham, based on data from the airport,
was 88 degrees.

MORE STORMS OUT WEST: Severe storms across parts of west Texas were
responsible for five tornadoes and over 30 reports of large hail, up to the
size of baseballs.
