MORE UNSETTLED WEATHER: It's going to stay that way for at least the next
few days and this will include some locally heavy rain in the next 24 to 36
hours. It's a bit unusual to have inclement weather lingering this long this
time of year.

In the last 24 hours, that "stationary" front actually pushed a little
further south and was draped along the Gulf coast today. A low pressure area
was along the front near the Biloxi-Mobile area and that was spreading
plenty of moisture inland over the relatively cool air at the surface. At
midday, it was only 62 degrees atop Mt. Cheaha after dropping to 55 this
morning. Lows were in the mid 50s in Mentone and Ft. Payne.

WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS MEAN? The moisture will continue to feed inland and
rain may be steady at times overnight, especially over the southern
two-thirds of the state. We could even hear a rumble of thunder. Tomorrow
the low pressure area is expected to move up across West Alabama to near
Livingston and to near Hamilton in NW Alabama by daybreak Thursday. We will
probably get more rain tomorrow than any day this week. By Friday, the
showers and storms should thin out considerably. Finally, our high
temperatures will get well up into the 80s by the end of the week.

HURRICANE SEASON: It officially starts tomorrow. Dr. William Gray and his
staff of hurricane researchers headquartered at Colorado State University,
Ft. Collins, is forecasting 15 named storms this season-8 of them becoming
hurricanes and 4 of the 8 reaching major hurricane status. In other words,
an active season. That group has had fairly good success with their
predictions, but sometimes they can be way off. Let's root for them to be
way off.

LEHI, UTAH: That spot had one of the most unusual happenings when a tornado
touched down two miles SE of town yesterday and traveled along the NE shore
of Utah Lake. It was confirmed by video footage. Utah Lake is that large
lake west of I-15 and west of Provo...other happenings included 3.71 inches
of rain at Tooele, Utah, over 2 inches at Orlando and Tampa...coldest this
morning 24 in Yellowstone Park, 28 in Barrow, Alaska...some expected weather
tomorrow...105 with a hot south wind at Furnace Creek and Stove Pipe Wells
in Death Valley, 89 with thunderstorms in Orlando, 82 with showers and
storms in Gulf Shores, sunny and 96 in Baghdad.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Perfect walking weather for little Miss Molly
and I...a steady light rain, about 62 degrees and a cool east wind. She and
I both love walking in the rain...for the first time in two weeks, some old
crows were flying around cawing, maybe even with a gargling sound. They had
to file an IFR flight plan when they took off from the Old Crow Airport,
wherever that is, because the clouds were so low and visibility was so poor
in the rain and fog...I worked overtime scooping this morning, mostly from
other community dogs that don't observe the Trussville leash law. Scooping
is one of my main purposes in life and I'm determined to keep the community
free of "you know what." Lots and lots of playtime with Molly in the last 24
hours. I truly believe that she would love to play with me 8 or 10 hours a
day. Life goes playfully along.
