TURNING WET LATER THIS WEEK: Another day of sunshine across Alabama. The
dew point is relatively low for mid May making it more comfortable even
though temperatures were approaching 80 early this afternoon. The dew point
was only 36 in Ft. Payne. Some drier air is trapped in that deep valley and
that is where the cooler temperatures will be tonight.

We don't expect it to be as cool as last night, but look for some upper 40s
in the NE Alabama valleys while most of Central Alabama has mid 50s. We
expect more sunshine than clouds Wednesday. Temperatures will reach the mid
80s, but the humidity will not be that bad.

OUR NEXT RAIN: There should be a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm
starting Thursday afternoon and continuing Thursday night. There will be an
increase in showers and thunderstorms on Friday. That will probably be our
wettest day. Still a decent chance on Saturday. Looking ahead to Sunday, it
looks mostly dry with comfortable temperatures peaking near 80.

LAST NIGHT'S COOL TEMPERATURES: We won't be able to celebrate temperatures
like this much longer, so let's look at a few overnight lows:

45 in Pinson and Cullman
48 in Huntsville
50 in Birmingham, Anniston and Tuscaloosa

ROAMING THE USA COUNTRYSIDE: 27 in Houghton, Michigan was the USA low this
morning...it was a hot 103 in Gila Bend, Arizona...another big wind storm
for Northern and Central Utah yesterday. The high winds affected the
mountains and the valleys. At least seven 18-wheelers were blown over on
I-15 which runs north-south through the area and on I-80 west of Salt Lake
across the Salt Flats toward Wendover. There were some measured wind gusts
as high as 68 mph.

DID YOU KNOW? That Hawaii is the only one of the 50 states that has not
recorded below zero temperatures? But it can get cold in the higher
mountains of the islands. On this date in 1979, their all-time low of 12 was
observed at Mauna Key Observatory, which is 13,770 feet above sea level.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Away almost all day yesterday on a very
interesting weather related field trip...when I got home, little Miss Molly
was so happy to see me that she almost tackled me. It sure makes me feel
good to know that she misses me so much...away again this morning at Medical
Center East. When I got home, she got a treat and we went walking. Miss
Molly has gotten to where she chases every bird within 50 feet. She dove
headfirst into the hedgerow when the bird flew in there. I could only see
her tail. I have to watch that. Although we have seen only two snakes in the
5 years living here, I don't want to take any chances. She was a real
busybody on her walk this morning. When we got almost back home, she plopped
down in the shade of the thick cedar tree and didn't want to move. I had to
insist that she move on. Her little quarter-size tongue was hanging out and
my shirt was wet with perspiration. Both Molly and I can't wait until
autumn, but life goes on.
