A WARMING TREND: Another chilly morning across Alabama. There was even a
little scattered light frost at Black Creek in NE Etowah County. The last 11
days in that area had an average low of 39.5-nearly 14 degrees below normal.
Let's look at a few lows:

35 in Valley Head and Black Creek
36 in Ft. Payne
37 in Cullman, Hartselle and Hamilton
38 in Wedowee, Talladega, Ashland, Pinson
39 in Gadsden, Leeds, Meridianville

Most other lows were between 40 and 47. There is a complete list of the lows
on the 33/40 weather blog.

It won't be quite as cool tonight. Finally, the daytimes will start warming
up by Friday and we should be around 80 or better for Saturday and Sunday
with near total sunshine. The only small fly in the ointment is a slight
chance of some scattered light rain Thursday. A better chance of that will
be across East Alabama.

EVER HEARD OF A SNOWBOW? An interesting note from Tom Randall, a long-time
East Birmingham postman. He gave permission to use his account of a strange
occurrence in the North Carolina mountains. Excerpts from his note: "My wife
and I were celebrating our anniversary at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge
Parkway April 27-about 5,000 feet elevation. As we were leaving our room for
dinner at the restaurant, it started snowing with winds of about 25-30 mph.
Everything was falling sideways. Moments after the snow began, a rainbow (a
snowbow) appeared. One of the most vivid that I have ever seen. During our
dinner it appeared again and caused considerable excitement and a lot of
conversation among the staff and diners. I could not detect any liquid
precipitation at all. It was truly spectacular. Did we witness something
truly unusual?" (Anybody else ever seen this?)

INCOMPLETE SENTENCES: 98 in Death Valley yesterday...19 in Big Rapids,
Michigan this morning...11 at Point Lay, Alaska...how's this for a quick
recovery? It was a record low of 10 in Williston, North Dakota yesterday
morning, but they will have 74 this afternoon-a 64-degree warm up in about
38 hours!...3 inches of rain in Miami Beach...how would you like to have
been in Monroe, Louisiana on this date in 1989 when hail the size of oranges
damaged thousands of cars and they were drenched with over 9 inches of rain?

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: It seems clear what I'm going to give little
Miss Molly for Christmas. I will wrap up a human shoe and let her go at it.
I always get completely dressed as soon as my feet hit the floor, but
sometimes I have a cup of coffee before putting on my shoes. You guessed
it...during that short time little Miss Molly dissected my semi-upscale
$29.99 shoes. The shoelaces are real tight, but she managed to completely
take them out and dig out the innersoles. I had to buy new laces. Shoes are
totally irresistible to her. I scolded her, but did not spank her on advice
of our readers. She slithered away and hid in one of her severe weather
safety hideouts. She no longer bothers my upscale pillow. I guess she is
evolving to more interesting things. We don't dare leave a pen or pencil
where she can get it. She can't resist those either. On a 10:30 walk last
night, we jumped another rabbit. That community rabbit (CR) knows by now how
to take off like a rocket and dive into the underbrush. I get jerked around
and last night I dropped the little blue scoop and flashlight. Life goes on.
