...A May Warm Up Ahead...
GOOD MORNING! It has been a little chilly over much of the United States for the past week. Did you know that nearly one hundred record lows were recorded across the nation Tuesday? That is a significant number. The mercury disappointed us a little even yesterday, as high temperature readings fell a few degrees short of their prognosticated levels across the area. But it was a nice day...
OK, SO WHERES MY WARMUP? Patience, my dear. You will start to feel it today. Highs across Central Alabama will warm into the upper 70s, with a few select locations hitting 80 degrees. The warmth will be accompanied by copious amounts of strong early May sunshine. Under mostly clear skies tonight, lows will drop into the upper 50s in most locations. Might notice a little patchy fog again early tomorrow.
FORECAST FOR MOM: Mothers Day 2005 should feature more beautiful weather. Skies will be mostly sunny again, with just a few scattered clouds developing with the heating of the day. Temperatures will rise to around 80 degrees. Perfect!
BACK INTO THE WORK WEEK: High pressure is strung over the northern Gulf, across Florida and into the Atlantic this morning. By Monday, it should slide just far enough east to allow moisture levels to start increasing. In addition, low pressure over the Dakotas will be pushing across the Plains. The combined effects of these features may give us a slight chance of a shower overnight Monday night and a chance of a shower or storm on Tuesday, and to a lesser extent on Wednesday. The front should wash out enough by Thursday to place Alabama in a soupy, summer like pattern. We will break out the scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms moniker for forecasts by the end of the week. Te mercury will slide above seasonal levels by Thursday and Friday, with readings reaching the mid to upper 80s. Some locations could even see 90. That chance of scattered showers and storms will continue into the weekend, but no washout.
