...Cool and Dry Weather...

A rather benign weather pattern will continue across Alabama for the next
seven to ten days. No heavy rain events, no severe weather. Really little
chance of any thunder and lightning, and some spots will get no rain at all.

The main highlight today is the unseasonably cool temperatures; temperatures
will remain a good ten degrees below normal for early May; most places won't
see 70 today. We will have a few cloudy periods, but we won't mention any
rain since the low level air is do dry.

REST OF THE WEEK: A weak surface low pressure center should form in the
northern Gulf later in the week, but most of the deep moisture will stay
over south Alabama. A few sprinkles are possible Wednesday night and
Thursday, but significant rain at this time looks rather unlikely for the
northern half of the state.

WEEKEND PEEK: At this point the weather looks excellent this weekend, with
ample sunshine and a nice warming trend. We should reach the upper 70s on
Saturday, and low 80s by Sunday. Dry air means no rain.

THE LONGER RANGE: The calm weather pattern seems to stay in place through
mid-month. A few wet periods are possible in the seven to 15 day period, but
we don't see any big chance of severe storms or really heavy rain at this
point.

BAMA TWISTERS: Based on NWS storm surveys, at least six tornadoes touched
down this past Saturday morning during the pre-dawn hours. Three tornadoes
were rated F1; in Shelby county in Helena and Alabaster, in Walker county
near Union Chapel, and in Lowndes county near White Hall. The other
tornadoes were F0; near Columbiana, Northport, and near Midway down in
Bullock county in southeast Alabama.
