...Race Day at 'Dega...

GOOD MORNING! Earlier in the week, I was afraid that today was going to be
a wet day. Afraid because it would have presented problems for the state's
biggest sporting event. Of course, the local hotels would have enjoyed
another day of out of town guests who fill every room from Tuscaloosa to
Huntsville, and Meridian to Bremen, Georgia. But not to worry, fabulous
weather in on deck for today's race. Skies will be sunny, with just a few
scattered clouds forming during the afternoon.

Temperatures will be a little on the cool side with a noticeable north
breeze. The coolness will mask the strength of the early May sun, so keep
the sunscreen handy.

TONIGHT: Temperatures will fall into the comfortable middle 40s overnight
tonight. Makes for great sleeping weather, so throw open those windows.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Temperatures will fall into the comfortable middle 40s
overnight tonight. Makes for great sleeping weather. Tomorrow should
feature partly cloudy skies and slightly warmer afternoon readings. The
approach of a weak front Monday night will re-introduce shower chances,
lasting into Tuesday. A low will develop in the Gulf and move eastward,
increasing our rain chances on Wednesday, continuing on Thursday. High
pressure will build in from the west on Friday, spelling nice weekend
weather.

PENSACOLA RAINFALL: Pensacola set a daily record for rainfall on Saturday
as 3.13 inches fell. I really thought that I was looking at a typo when I
saw the amount of rainfall that has fallen in the month. 24.44 inches of
rain has fallen there in April. That's right. Nearly 25 inches of rain in
one month. The total for the year is now at 44.52, over 71% of the average
annual rainfall of 62.25 inches. I think the all time monthly record in the
city is 20.36, set in July 1979, so this month may be a record. Amazing.

ON THIS DATE IN 1933: A very destructive F4 tornado struck Minden LA.
Twenty weight people died in the tornado that reportedly sounded like "mad
lions on a speeding train."
