A CONTENTED WEEKEND: We deserve a break and we're going to get it this
weekend with pleasantly cool mornings and mild afternoons, both Saturday and
Sunday, with the extra bonus of lots of sunshine.

We have a few more issues before the weekend, however. Showers and
thunderstorms were developing over North Alabama this afternoon. A few of
those could contain hail, especially in areas north and east of Birmingham.
The reason is that it's turning quite a bit colder aloft as a low pressure
area both at the surface and aloft moves over our area. That low will move
on eastward and our weather will improve by tomorrow, although we could
still have a few morning showers.

THE LAST 24 HOURS: I believe every square inch of Alabama got a drenching.
It would be impossible to find any blowing dust today. Numerous communities
received between 2 and 3 inches of rain. We don't have space to list them
all, but a sampling included Smith Dam, Blountsville, Holt, Trafford,
Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Evergreen.

MOBILE'S PARADE OF RAIN: They got another 3.25 inches in the last 24 hours
bringing their total for the last 6 days to an impressive 9.52 inches. They
have received almost 15 inches in the last five weeks.

LOOKING AT NEXT WEEK: I'm afraid we will have another round of rather
numerous showers and thunderstorms early in the week. It looks like another
very wet weather system and possibly another bout with severe weather. By
Monday morning, a strong low pressure area will be over Oklahoma and Kansas.
Moisture will already be streaming northward from the Gulf of Mexico. We
should start getting showers and thunderstorms Monday night and becoming
more numerous on Tuesday.

ROAMING: 94 in Brownsville, Texas was the hottest in the USA Wednesday...it
was 16 this morning at Embarrass in Northern Minnesota...lots of heavy snow
expected over the next few days in the Cascades and Sierra-Nevada Mountains.

A SAD STORY FROM MY TINY CORNER: I received permission from Linda Knight to
tell the story of a tragedy with her dogs. Linda had a shih-tzu named Leah
(same breed as Miss Molly) and Leah's bigger sister, Sally, age 5. They had
been together with no problems for more than four years. While Linda was
away on a recent Sunday, Sally attacked Leah and fatally injured her. Leah
lived long enough to realize that Linda was back home. Linda wants to
greatly thank Keri Riddick and her staff at the Emergency and Specialty
Animal Medical Center for doing everything in their power to save Leah, but
she died from a possible blood clot. This was one time that Leah did not
have Linda there to back her up. Linda said, "I will forever feel the guilt
and pain of not being there to be her ultimate protector. Make sure to
cherish every moment with Molly that you can. To add to the tragedy, the
larger dog Sally has grieved tremendously since that happened-lying on
Leah's bed, looking for her throughout the house, not eating and not having
anything to do with anyone. She is taking her actions very hard. This has
taught me a valuable lesson that will only make me a better and more
realistic parent in the future." NOTE: Not enough apace to tell Linda's

strong person, emotionally, but I shed tears when I received Linda's email.
