...Unsettled Week Ahead...

GOOD MORNING! Greetings from Denver! Everyone says, “Are you there for the NBA All Star Game?” No, I am here for the really big show: the National Storm Chasers Convention. Three days of serious information about the avocation of storm chasing. Or as my son Will says, three hundred weather nerds oohing and ahhhing over dozens of tornado videos until 4 a.m. in the morning.

TODAY AND TONIGHT: Skies will become mostly cloudy across the area today, as an upper level disturbance moves our way. It will take awhile for the airmass over our area to moisten enough for showers to start reaching the ground, but that should start occurring tonight.

SUNDAY: Sunday looks to be a wet one, as a cold front edges our from out of the north. There could be a few storms mixed in Sunday and Sunday night.

WORK WEEK AHEAD: Monday will be a holiday, and our front plans to spend it, and much of the coming week here with us in Alabama. This spells a wet weather spell for the area. Showers will be triggered by little impulses riding along the stalled or nearly stalled frontal system. It is difficult to say when those little buggers will be in the area until you see the whites of their eyes, but suffice to say wet weather will be with us for much of the week

Temperatures will be near or slightly above normal through Tuesday, then fall back a few degrees for the remainder of the week. Rainfall amounts over the next 5 days will average one to inches. There is a chance that amounts could be higher, and the potential for flooding could become a problem if persistent heavy rains develop. The chance for severe weather appears to be minimal at this time. The front should finally push south of us on Thursday as another low moves across the state.

ON THIS DATE IN 1979: Famous “President’s Day” storm surprised forecasters all along the east coast. Computer models bombed out on forecasting this major snowstorm. 25 inches of snow fell at Dover DE. Baltimore MD picked up whopping 20 inches.
