...Happy Valentine's Day...

GREETINGS FROM VEGAS! The Weather Channel has published the results
of its first annual Weather and Romance Survey. Topping the list of the
most romantic weather are snowstorms. (I think this survey has a northern
bias.) More than half said rain and lightning were a negative. (Has to have
a northern bias. Rain is about all we get here in the South.) Seventy
percent said they made the best of power failures by lighting candles and
snuggling. (But the air conditioning or heat goes out.)
Respondents said that Spring is the most romantic season (agreed), followed
by Fall. Winter and Summer tied for last place. Email me your thoughts and
I will publish the results next week.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Showers will be ending from west to east this
morning across the area. Clearing will commence in western sections this
morning and progress eastward during the day with most areas seeing sunshine
by early afternoon. Temperatures will reach the middle 60s today, and fall
into the lower 40s tonight. Look for some fog tonight. Tuesday should be a
nice day with high pressure giving us sunshine and warm readings again. By
Wednesday, a fast moving low pressure well to our north will drag another
cold front through the area. It will be accompanied by showers and perhaps
a storm or two. It's back to fair weather on Thursday, but it will be back
to being seasonably cool in the wake of Wednesday front. Moisture starts
returning Friday with some clouds and maybe a shower. Shower chances will
continue into the weekend.

TODAY IN WEATHER HISTORY: On this date in 1940: "St.Valentine's Day
Storm" in southern New England. 10-18 inches of snow fell along with gale
winds. 14 inches of snow fell at Boston. On this date in 1895: 24 inches
of snow fell in Rayne, LA, the state's all time single storm record. On
this date in 1947: The Weather Bureau commissioned its first weather radar
at Washington D.C. The radar network would grow slowly over the next few
years.
