DRY SATURDAY; RAIN STARTS SUNDAY: It was below freezing across North and
Central Alabama this morning. Here are some selected lows:

23 in Pinson and at Russell Cave National Monument
25 at Fort Payne Airport and Talladega
26 in Mentone and Jasper
27 at Cullman Airport
28 in Wedowee, Birmingham and Alexander City
29 in Anniston, Tuscaloosa and atop Mt. Cheaha

In East Tennessee, it was 23 in Gatlinburg, 13 on Newfound Gap and 2 above
zero atop Mt. Leconte where there was two inches of snow on the ground.
Saturday should be dry across Alabama. We believe the rain will hold off
until Sunday when chances will increase as the day wears on. There could
also be a thunderstorm late Sunday or Sunday night. Monday will also feature
showers and occasional thunderstorms. Even Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
will have periods of rain. This lengthy period of rain could bring one to
two inches.

All of this rain will come with some breaks. Timing is difficult. By the
middle of next week, a cold front may push south far enough into Central
Alabama to cool us down a few degrees. Still no real cold weather in sight
through all of next week.

CALIFORNIA HERE WE GO AGAIN: Another very wet time for California over the
next several days. Could be some more flash flooding and mudslides as parts
of the state could get up to 6 inches of rain. The NWS in Los Angeles warns
that 15 to 30 inches of snow may fall between from now through Sunday above
7,000 feet in the California Mountains.

CLEANING OFF MY DESK: How's this for snow country? At this time in 1972,
Paradise Ranger Station in Mt. Rainier National Park east of Seattle had
received a 12-month snow total of 1,224.5 inches! That is a USA record for
that period of time...and in 1959 a five-day storm had dumped as much as 189
inches of snow in the mountains along the California-Nevada border...back to
today...the low this morning was 36 below zero at Embarrass, in North
Minnesota...that was a lot colder than anything in Alaska where the lowest
was 18 below at Arctic Village and Barrow.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Woe is me. I was so sound asleep and I felt
this little paw and wet nose pressing against my arm. It was Little Miss
Molly. I thought she just wanted to play but it was more urgent than that.
She wanted to go outside to the "bathroom." Only thing, it was 3:30
AM...don't know why because she has been sleeping all night...so I stayed up
and am a bit groggy this afternoon because we did not hit the sack until
after 11...Molly seems a little lonely today. She has asked to sit on my
desk three times and she takes naps right up against my computer keyboard.
In fact she swishes her tail occasionally and that has cleaned most of the
dust. She whapped the keyboard so hard once that she caused a typo! Life
goes on, a bit groggy at times, but we will take life in any form of
fashion...and we hope it will be long-lasting!
