THERMOMETER WHIPLASH: Up and down, up and down. It's the season for that as
we approach a transition time of the year between seasons. It was 70 two
days ago but the thermometer will get snatched back to below freezing
tonight.

Dew points as low as the teens reached North Alabama this afternoon. With
clear skies and light winds, look for some rather cold temperatures
especially in the North Alabama valleys. We are forecasting an average low
of 28 across North Central Alabama but it is possible to have some low 20s
in the normally colder spots.

We only expect a one-night freeze. Lows tomorrow night should be in the 30s.
Changes are ahead. While we will have mostly sunshine again Friday, clouds
will move in at night. It still looks like Saturday will stay dry although a
lot of cloudiness. There could be a shower Saturday night.

THEN COMES THE RAIN: Maybe a three-day stretch of wet weather Sunday,
Monday and Tuesday. A cold front is expected to stall across the Tennessee
Valley after reaching that area Tuesday. The heaviest rain during the event
will be over about the north half of the state. Some places closer to the
Tennessee River could get rainfall totals approaching two inches.
Meanwhile, high temperatures will be in the 50s Friday and Saturday but
warming to the 60s early in the week.

GOING VISITING: It was 87 yesterday in Harlingen and McAllen, Texas and 20
below this morning in Big Piney, Wyoming. It was 24 below in Arctic Village
Alaska-no real cold weather in that area at this time.

STORM ALERT 2005: The next program is tonight at 7 at Wallace State College
in Hanceville. Come early to get a good seat and the program should be over
at 8:15 or so. Severe Weather Awareness continues all across Alabama. Great
time to review your family or workplace safety plans. Every home, office and
plant should have a plan.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Molly and I were awakened by another midnight
phone call so Molly got up and wanted to play. We played for about five
minutes but she was so tired that we folded soon and slept like two little
babies. Molly has trained me so that I also get excited about our first
half-mile walk each morning. We know that nature is waiting to show us some
nice sounds and scenes. This morning, we paused to see the sunrise from the
wide grass-covered common area in front of the Old Crow Motel. The sun was
peeping through a broken layer of altocumulus clouds. Those are some of my
favorites. They look like oval dinner-plates assembled close together and
are usually 8 to 12 thousand feet above the ground. We could also hear the
gentle swish of water in the Old Crow Creek as it comes off a rock formation
and runs along the walking track. It is a wet-weather stream only. Molly
made her usual stops and cried for Jo-Jo. Looks like that is a one-way love
affair but life will go on.
