OUR NON-WINTER: Have we had enough cold weather this winter to keep
us from having too many spiders and bugs-varmints as my friend, Snuffy
Smith, calls them? I don't think so. December was close to normal but
January averaged a very impressive 5.6 degrees above normal and the coldest
all month was 18. February is running 3 degrees above normal and 11 of the
first 15 days were above normal. We don't see any severely cold weather in
the near future-at least not in the next 7 or 8 days.

A cold front was moving across Alabama this afternoon and it will
send our temperature into the 30s tonight. There has been almost no rain
with this front and skies will be clearing overnight. Sunshine returns
Thursday but it won't be around too long. Clouds will return later Friday
but the freshest information we have indicates that Saturday will be dry.

Sunday and Monday will be our main window for rain and some areas
may see one inch or more during that time frame. See our day by day forecast
for all the details.

SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK: Today was a key part of that as a
statewide practice Tornado Watch and Tornado Warning was issued. We hope you
observed the drill and fine-tuned your family and office safety plans.
Flash-flooding will be the emphasis tomorrow. Also, don't forget the 3340
Storm Alert with Thursday night's program at 7 o'clock at Hanceville.

ROAMING AIMLESSLY: Did you realize the 91 high in Laredo, Tex.,
yesterday is as high as the normal hottest part of the summer in
Birmingham?...not too anxious to see that kind of heat for awhile...USA low
this morning was 20 below in Stanley, Idaho. Stanley was the cold spot a lot
of times last winter but this year the coldest weather has hung around the
east and Saranac Lake, in upstate New York has been the coldest a lot.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Bedtime is supposed to be quiet and
peaceful. Not always that way with my little 9-pound energizer puppy around.
Little Miss Molly can upset the apple cart. These times are approximate:
10:18 PM: I went to bed. 10:20 PM: Little Miss Molly rang the little bell
hanging on the back door knob meaning she needed to go. Got dressed and took
Molly for a walk. 10:40 PM: Molly's last treat for the day. Then she
demanded that I play with her. We had a very active play session, chase
ball, pull rope, you name it. 11:02 PM: Undressed again and went to bed with
Molly for the second time. 11:12 PM: Phone call from my wife in Coos Bay,
Oregon. She wanted to let me know how her seriously ill sister was doing.
She also said, "Put Molly on the phone." I put the phone to Molly's ear and
the two of them chatted in puppy language. Molly looked up at me so
surprised and she was wagging her tail continuously. As soon as I hung up,
Molly jumped off the bed and ran through the entire house looking for
"Mommy." Then she went on one of her energy explosions. I got up to watch
her because they are so funny. I kept score. She raced through the house for
15 round trips, went airborne and bounced off the back of the couch 6
times...then she wanted me to chase her. 11:32 PM: Back to the bed for the
third time and both our tongues were hanging out. Life goes on. We love all
the excitement!
