THE ALABAMA STORY: Out and about early this morning and I always enjoy
driving across the ridges and valleys on Deerfoot Parkway. I saw some
shrubs already beginning to blossom! Still about five weeks till spring
officially arrives.

It was 75 down in Brewton and Robertsdale yesterday and 72 in Tuscaloosa.
Much of the state was expected to warm into the 70s this afternoon.

Clouds will gradually increase tonight and we may have a bit of rain before
daybreak. This is due to another cold front expected to reach Central
Alabama Wednesday morning. The rain with this front should be light. It will
be colder Thursday night and Friday with our lowest temperatures coming
early Friday morning. Lows should be near 30 but it could be as low as 28 in
some of the colder valleys.

The next chance of rain will come later Saturday and extending through
Saturday night and Sunday.

Still no indication of real cold weather at least for the next 5 to 7 days
and we may have some 60s again early next week.

SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK: It is underway this week in Alabama and
today's emphasis is on lightning. Personally, lightning is my most feared
thing in weather. Lightning fatalities do not grab the headlines like
tornado and hurricane deaths because usually lightning picks of one or two
persons at a time. You need to take cover if you hear thunder within 30
seconds of seeing lightning. You should also wait 30 minutes after the last
clap of thunder before outdoor activities resume. It is known as the "30/30
Rule."

The next program in the 3340 Storm Alert Tour will be Thursday night at
Wallace State College, Hanceville. It starts at 7 and it is usually over by
8:15 pm.

TUESDAY TIDBITS: 90 in Harlingen, Tex., was the warmest in the USA
yesterday...19 below at Banter Island was the coldest this morning in
Alaska...in the "Lower 48" the coldest was 18 below at Stanley, on the
Salmon River in Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains-so named because those mountains
have sharp peaks like saw teeth.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I expected the afternoon walk with Little Miss
Molly to be calm, collected and relaxed. It was not to be. The minute we
stepped outside, she saw Jo-Jo above the walking track and away she went. I
felt like I was in the Mercedes Marathon. Jo-Jo ran away and Molly cried.
Minutes later, we met the transient Alaskan Husky that meanders through
every month or so...he also ran...30 yards later we saw a neighbor lady
walking her dog and pushing her baby in a stroller...I held Molly away
because I was afraid she would scare the baby...coming back down the track,
Molly got a glimpse of the CC (Community Cat) in a small patch of woods near
our house going to the bathroom. That was a no, no, no with Molly. Not only
was it a cat but it was invading her territory and going to the bathroom on
her "property." Molly charged within 10 feet of the cat and she was barking
so loudly that her front feet were lifting off the ground. Life goes on,
noisy at times.
