...Another Chilly Start...

GOOD MORNING! For the second straight Monday, we are kicking off the week
with a cold Monday morning. As is the case when we have a strong morning
inversion in a radiational cooling situation, temperatures on the ridges are
likely several degrees warmer than those in the valley locations.
Temperatures will warm up a lot today, running some 12-15 degrees warmer
than yesterday, when the cold air advection machine was in high gear.
Likewise, readings tonight will be some 10-15 degrees warmer than last
night. And then things will moderate even further on Tuesday when the
mercury will reach the upper 50s and on Wednesday when highs will top out
near 60 degrees.

Skies should be mostly sunny today with just a few high clouds streaming
across from time to time, and become partly cloudy on Tuesday. A
reinforcing cold front will push trough the area on Wednesday, but it will
be starved for moisture, so we will just call for mostly cloudy skies and a
tiny chance of a few sprinkles at this time. Temperatures will fall back to
near normal levels on Thursday and Friday.

SNEAK PEAK AT THE WEEKEND: By late on Saturday, a storm system will be
getting organized near the Red River of northern Texas. This system will
move eastward, bringing rain to Alabama, most likely during the day on
Sunday and into the overnight hours.

ON THIS DATE IN 1997: One twister struck the eastern part of Tuscaloosa,
killing one person and injuring eight. The tornado struck a strip shopping
center, crushing the roof of a crowded Food World grocery store and tossing
cars in the parking lot like toys. A car was blown on top of and through
the roof of the supermarket. Quick action by store managers who saw the
approaching twister and ushered people who were outside in their cars into
the building and warned customers to take cover saved many lives. The one
fatality occurred when a tree was blown onto a car.
