...Another Plunge in Temperature

Well, here we go again. Another roller coaster ride and a big change in
temperature that will eventually mean a drop of 51 degrees from yesterday's
very mild 70.

There will be some showers today, although not heavy. A major low pressure
system is consolidating north of us and will swing across the Ohio Valley
and over to near Philadelphia and Atlantic City. This will swing a cold
front through Central Alabama this afternoon bringing much colder arctic
air. We can't rule out the prospect of a few snow flurries tonight, but we
think the best chance of those would be closer to the Tennessee River and
over NE Alabama. You are going to feel the bite in the air by this afternoon
as winds shift to NW and gusting to 30 mph or more. By Sunday morning, our
temperature will be in the lower 20s and we will do good to reach 40 Sunday
afternoon. Our coldest morning will be Monday with a low near 19. After
that, a warming trend starts. The temperature reached 70 or higher over
almost all of Central and South Alabama Friday. It was in the 60s across the
Tennessee Valley.

A BAD, BAD WINTER STORM: A big part of the Northern U.S. is going to get
lambasted over the weekend by a major winter storm all the way from
Minnesota and Iowa into New England. It is by far the worst one so far this
winter. Chicago will get 6 to 10 inches of snow by tonight, but adjacent
areas of NW Indiana will get 12 to 15 inches along with very windy
conditions and blowing and drifting snow. Pittsburgh may get nearly a foot.

Same in Buffalo and Philadelphia with big snowdrifts. In New York City, a
blizzard warning is in effect for later this morning through Sunday
afternoon. They will get 12 to 15 inches of snow, but huge drifts as winds
tonight reach 50 mph. Washington, D.C. also has a winter storm warning for 4
to 8 inches. Boston will get 1 to 2 feet of snow with near blizzard
conditions and winds to 55 mph. Out on Cape Cod, winds may gust to 65! A
real n'oreaster. (Watch the 3340 weather BLOG for updates over the weekend)

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Had some quality time with little Miss Molly
Friday. We walked several times covering at least 2 miles. She enjoys being
outside so much that it's like a vacation. The nice warm sun seemed to make
her happy. Life goes on.
