...Much Colder by Sunday...

Temperatures should rise into the low to mid 60s across Alabama today, about ten degrees above normal for mid to late January. There will be a few cloudy periods, but the day will be dry. But, don’t get used to this nice spring-like weather, as a storm system is on the way for the weekend with some very significant changes.

TOMORROW: We will continue to mention the chance of a few passing showers tomorrow as the storm system approaches. A little thunder and lightning is not out of the question as much colder air aloft moves into the state. But, moisture is quite limited with the storm and rainfall amounts should be mostly under one-half inch.

TOMORROW NIGHT: Much colder air will move into Alabama late tomorrow night, and there is still a window for a few snow flurries from about midnight tomorrow night through 7:00 a.m. Sunday. The best chance of flurries will come across the northeast corner of the state, and even there it should not be a big deal. The moisture looks way too shallow.

SUNDAY: It now looks like the sun will return for most of the day on Sunday, but strong north winds will keep wind chill values below freezing much of the day. Temperatures will hold in the 30s despite the sunshine.

MONDAY: We expect the mercury to drop into the upper teens Monday morning, but the cold snap won’t last long. A warming trend begins Monday afternoon which will last through the rest of the week. We should be in the low 60s by Wednesday of next week.

ROAMING: Warmest places in the nation yesterday were in Texas; Brownsville and Harlingen both reached 81 degrees. Coldest was Northway, Alaska with –52.
